PERFORMING ORGANIZATIONS

Manhattanville College Community Orchestra: Open to qualified men and women from the College and community by audition. Weekly rehearsals will prepare for the presentation of selected works from the chamber orchestra, concerto, and symphonic repertoire. There are two scheduled public concerts each year including an Awards Concert featuring the winner of the concerto competition. Credit is available.

Manhattanville College Community Orchestra: Open to qualified men and women from the College and community with the permission of the conductor. Weekly rehearsals will prepare for the presentation of selected works from the chamber orchestra, concerto, and symphonic repertoire. Manhattanville College Chamber Music Performance Class: Open to College students and the community with the permission of the instructor. The department will organize small ensemble groups to focus on classical repertoire for chamber groups. Weekly rehearsals will lead to public performances. Credit is available.

Manhattanville College Chorus: Open to students from the College and community members with the permission of the conductor. Weekly rehearsals will prepare for the presentation of selected works from the mixed choral repertoire. Public performances include: the Holiday Concert, a major campus event, and a full Spring Concert. The Chorus also performs at other functions both on and off campus. Credit is available.

Manhattanville College Vocal Chamber Ensemble: Open to students currently enrolled in the College Chorus who successfully audition. Weekly rehearsals will prepare this group for on and off campus performances featuring music from all periods. Credit is available.

Manhattanville College MIDI Ensemble (Electronic Band): Open to College students interested in electronic and computer-based music, this course will explore, arrange and compose pieces with an emphasis on performance. Weekly rehearsals will work towards the goal of preparing for both formal and informal performances. Credit is available.

Manhattanville College Wind Ensemble: Open to College students and community members who play wind, brass, and percussion instruments, and who wish to read, rehearse, and perform literature appropriate for a secondary level wind ensemble. Enrollment in the course MuA 4484: Wind Ensemble Lab is the pre-requisite vehicle through which membership in this organization comes about. Weekly rehearsals will explore wind ensemble literature, as well as prepare this group for on campus performance.

Manhattanville College Small Jazz Ensemble: Open to qualified musicians with the permission of the instructor. A small ensemble focusing on improvisational techniques, special arrangements, and standard as well as innovative jazz techniques. Normally, enrollment in the course follows completion of MuA 4485: Jazz Improvisation as a pre-requisite. However, experienced performers may be allowed to join the Ensemble directly by registering for MuA 4486: Small Jazz Ensemble. Weekly rehearsals and public performances will be scheduled. Credit is available.

Manhattanville College-Community Jazz Ensemble (Big Band): Open to College students and community members who play saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, and rhythm instruments, and who wish to read, rehearse, and perform jazz and other popular music appropriate for a large ensemble setting. Performers are expected to commit to a weekly meeting with the goal of preparing for both formal and informal performances. Credit is available.

Manhattanville College Cabaret: A course in the solo performance of musical theatre song open to students through audition. Weekly rehearsals prepare for a pair of public performances in a cabaret setting. Credit is available.

The Quintessentials: A year long select pop vocal group open to men and women through special audition at the end of spring semester. Weekly rehearsals prepare this featured group for on and off campus performances featuring a variety of pop songs in special arrangements. Credit is available.

Manhattanville Performance Project: Musical Theatre: A performance class focused on the process and craft of theatre with music. This two-semester course stresses training in physical movement and choreography, vocal production, and dramatic elements. The course culminates in public showings of works in several performances.  Prerequisites: Two semesters of applied voice, dance, or theatre technique courses on the college level or admission by special permission of the Directors of Music or Dance/Theatre.
