Textbook: Group Piano for Adults; Second Edition, by E.L. Lancaster and Kenon D. Renfrow. Publisher: Alfred Publishing

Materials: Manuscript paper or manuscript notebook; additional handouts will be provided by the instructor

Course: This course is designed for students with little or no keyboard experience. In this class, we will focus on learning how to play the piano. The course will also cover basic skills such as note reading, rhythm, chords, harmonization, and accompaniments. You will learn to work in ensembles of different sizes. We will study the repertoire found in the text as well as supplementary material provided by the instructor.

Success in class will depend on regular attendance, class participation, and prompt completion of assignments.

Attendance Policy: A student with 2 or more unexcused absences will need to meet with the department chair and the instructor.

Grading policy:

            Participation, attendance, and preparation    50% of grade

            Mid-term examination                                       20% of grade

            Final Examination                                              20% of grade

            Quizzes                                                               10% of grade
