This class deals with small ensemble repertoire and
performance. Both students and teacher select various jazz standards, rock
standards and original student compositions for an end of the semester
performance. All music is thoroughly explored rhythmically, harmonically and
melodically. Each student is encouraged to collaborate in all aspects of
each arrangement. Improvisation is thoroughly discussed with students learning
the appropriate modes and chord changes enabling them to better express their
musical thoughts.
Homework is required because assignments are usually played in class. More than 3 missing assignments and 3 non medical absences result
in a C or lower.
