Jazz and popular songs by composers such as Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock and the Beatles will be presented to the class in lead sheet and CD form for harmonic and melodic analysis. This knowledge then enables each student to begin to improvise through the form of each song on their own instrument at their own pace. Clear examples of improvisational techniques will be demonstrates by the instructor and he will provide accompaniment for each student, as well.

Homework is required because assignments are usually played in class. More than 3 missing assignments and 3 non medical absences result in a C or lower.
