The course is designed for non-majors interested in acquiring basic skills in music reading, sight-reading, and ear-training. Compositional projects.  Macrobeat, microbeat and subdivision, rhythm, meter conducting patterns

 Pitch:  notation, the keyboard

 Scales: pentatonic, major, minor, blues, modes

 Intervals, basic chords and inversions

 Basic formal units (motive, phrase) and macroforms

 Timbre/color, dynamics, tempo, duration, articulation
