MANHATTANVILLE COLLEGE MUSIC DEPARTMENT

LIBRARY RESOURCES FOR MUSIC

Fall, 2006

The Manhattanville Library holds a sizable collection of scores, reference materials, and books about music. Music materials are stored in various places in the Library: on the regular shelf list, in the reference area on the ground floor, in the periodical shelf list, and in the index room. Students should familiarize themselves with the organization of these materials, and feel free to ask questions of the reference librarians. A quick guide to music call numbers follows:

M 1 - 4000 Music scores, Recordings, and Collections of Music

ML1 - 4000 Reference works, History of Music, and Biography

MT1 - 4000 Music Education, Music Theory, and Music Analysis

The Music Department supports an online Music Media Center through the College Library. Many listening requirements for courses are available on line through the Library's electronic resources pages. Course materials are also available in the library, as well as a substantial collection of records, tapes, and compact discs. Students are encouraged to make use of the extensive catalogue of valuable materials.

Several courses are supported by on line listening materials, too. Check the web page for each course for relevant web-based and course-specific holdings.
