Purpose of the Course

This is an introductory survey of what psychology currently knows about the changes in physical, intellectual, social, interpersonal, and personality functions which occur during the period we, in the West, call adolescence (i.e., between about 11-25 years of age.)  The goal of the course is to acquaint beginning students with information about these changes, the theories that attempt to explain why these changes occur, and the various methods by which developmental psychologists study adolescents (i.e., the individuals) and adolescence (i.e., the period of development.)  In addition, this course is intended to add to our own understanding of our own adolescent experiences and the ways in which others experience(d) us during our adolescence.
