MUA 1007 – Introduction to Music Technology                          FA 2005

Tuesday and Friday from 3:00 to 4:15 PM, Room 108, Music Building

In this course, students learn how technology can be used to arrange and compose music, and develop musicianship skills. Beginning with an overview of computer terminology and general use, the course will introduce four areas of computer-based music technology: MIDI sequencing; digital audio recording and editing; education software; and music engraving programs. Additional topics include the synthesizer and sound recording devices.

Course Requirements: Midterm and Final Exams, One Quiz, Three Projects using Music Technology

The projects we create are a sequence using Digital Performer 4, a printed music score using Finale, and a final project that combines various programs we use in class.

Software included in this class: Digital Performer 4, Finale, Band-in-a-Box, Max/MSP, and MacCsound. The program which receives the most attention is Digital Performer 4.
