Exercise Set 13 - Two part exercises using diatonic major and minor scales. Harmonic intervals are consonant, and common practice voice-leading requirements are followed. Chromatic alterations are possible in major and minor in melody line only. For minor keys, chromatic alterations occur on 6th and 7th degrees (review minor scale forms). For Major keys, chromatic alterations occur as chromatic passing tones from sd 4 to sd 5 (scale degrees) and as chromatic passing tones from sd 5 to sd 6. As an example, in F major sd 4 to sd 5 is B-flat to C; as chromatic passing tone passage would be B-flat, B-natural, C. Another example, in D major sd 5 to sd 6 is A to B; as chromatic passing tone passage this would be A, A#, B.
