Topics to be covered:

 

      Real number line and absolute value

      Cartesian coordinates – distance formula, circles

      Straight lines – slope, equations, parallel and perpendicular lines

      Functions and graphing techniques

      Quadratic functions and equations, the Quadratic Formula

      Solving inequalities

      Trigonometry

      Exponents and logarithms

           

Requirements for course:

 

     Class attendance and quizzes

     Homework assignments

     3 tests

     Final examination – week of April 28

 

Quiz policy: There will be a short (5-10 minutes) in class quiz every Thursday (except on the days of the full period tests listed above) starting on January 17.  There are NO MAKE-UPS ON QUIZZES.

 

Grading: Quizzes (together with class attendance and homework) count for 10% of the course grade. Tests count 20% each and the final exam is 30%.

 

Calculator policy: You will NOT be allowed to use graphing calculators or cell-phones during the tests and final exam. A scientific calculator (like the TI-30Xa or Casio FX-260) or a simple function calculator (add, sub, mult, div, square roots, etc.) is permitted. If you plan to use a calculator other than one of those, it must be approved in advance.
