Course description:  This course is an intensive second semester covering form and function of major organ systems in the human body, such as cardiovascular, endocrine, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive.  The lecture portion will tend to focus on physiology (function), while the lab portion will deal mainly with anatomy (form).  In some labs you will be performing physiological experiments with yourselves as the subjects!  Due to the amount of terminology you will encounter, it is recommended that you keep a list of vocabulary throughout the term, and read all assigned material thoroughly prior to attending the lab.

Proficiencies:

Attendance:  Your attendance is mandatory for all labs and lectures.  If you need to miss a lab, please speak to me in advance.

Course text (required):  Marieb, E.N. and K. Hoehn.  2007.  Human Anatomy and Physiology, 7th Ed.  Pearson Benjamin Cummings, Inc. (ISBN 0-8053-5910-9)

Lab manual (required): Marieb, E.N. and S.J. Mitchell. 2008.  Human Anatomy & Physiology Laboratory Manual, 9th Ed: Cat version.  Pearson Benjamin Cummings, Inc. (ISBN 0-8053-7362-4)

Lab Safety:  In order to work within the lab, all students must read the Biology Lab Safety guidelines and print off and sign the Lab safety contract. You may find this at http://www1.mville.edu/biology/biosafety.html.

Grading:  Grades will be assigned according to the following:

Lecture grade (worth 50% of mark):

Lecture exams (3): 30%

Clinical Project and Presentation: 10%

Short clinical assignments (4): 10%

Laboratory grade (worth 50% of mark):

Lab quizzes (4): 10%
